SHOW US YOURS: Chris’ Honda GL1000 Gold Wing

This is my slightly unusual 1978 GL1000 which I’ve been working on for about 18 months (aided by my able Collie apprentice Lily). I bought the bike as a recent US import for around £700 as a non-runner, but when it was delivered it ran beautifully which was incredible considering the difficulties the carbs can give on these models. I’ve stripped down the front calipers and replaced seals and pads, sourced some drilled discs from a CB750, replaced the front master cylinder and restored the rear cylinder and fitted HEL hoses throughout.

I fitted an oil dipstick from the States, it’s got new Gates cam-belts along with the twin front lights and LED indicators and the Hagon shocks mean that you can ride the bike and still retain one or two of your fillings. The stainless steel exhausts look good and sound brilliant, but perhaps not for Gold Wing purists.
