Bonhams Auction, October 2011

The first motorcycle in the sale, the 1955 DB34 Gold Star BSA which was last on the road in 1968 and in need of a full restoration, made £7200 – well over its estimate. While the biggest sale of the weekend, the Brough Superior SS100 'Moby Dick', made a huge £190,000 under the hammer. View the video to get a taster of the auction

Elsewhere, biking enthusiasts turned up in their droves. The venue again for the 18th Carole Nash Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show was the Stafford County Showground, over the sunny weekend of October 15-16. There were attractions aplenty, and we were blessed with the presence of one of the true greats of racing: three-time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey! Wayne gave interviews and tirelessly signed books and images for show-goers.
