Old School
By: Web Editor
I was thrilled to read the YL1 article in the November CMM issue. This was the first bike I fell in love with as a 12-year-old back in late 1969.
I started hanging around the school bike shed among the Benlys, K10s YF1s etc. but the 100 twin really blew me away. I can still remember the names of those senior boys at school who owned them and I would rush down after class just to hear them start up.
The bikes became an obsession with me and still were in 1973 when I finally bought one. It turned out to be a junker needing a complete rebuild but I still loved it and yes, I used to thrash it to death. The engine seemed to sigh with relief at each upshift.
Thanks for reigniting those great memories CMM.

I had one back in 1973 - pty i did not keep it. Ijust thrashed it into the ground like any other 19 year old. I hammered it mercelessly , she always came back for more. Sold it to a mate who promptly smashed her into a brick wall , he out rode the brakes and lost control
