Hello...

Welcome to the July issue of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics. The blistering weather of the last few weeks has swollen the ranks at bike meets and events up and down the country. It’s great to see so many classic machines out on the road being ridden and enjoyed.

Hello...

Ben Wilkins, Editor

It’s also reminded us here in the office that we need to stop talking about sorting our own bikes and actually get on with doing them. Bruce, our staff writer, is a prime example – after months of nothing he’s cracking on with the Z550 project. And judging by the amount of you that have sent in pictures of your finished bikes you’ve been busy in your sheds, garages and, in some cases, kitchens too.

It really is inspiring stuff. Keep them coming. There are more great machines to be inspired by on page 20.

Talking of inspiration, the cover bike this month is one of those machines where the more you look at the detail the more you understand just how special it is. And the best thing about it is that 99% of the work has been done by the owner; including building the frame and machining the yokes. They’re the kind of workshop skills I’m sure we all wish we had. Besides the construction aspect on the bike, having taken the TZ750 for a brief spin I have a renewed respect, and now a degree of awe, for Kenny Roberts; how on earth did he ride that thing on the dirt?

Enjoy the issue.
