Hello... September 2010

Inspiration can come in many forms. It could come from the sound of a bike at tickover, the swooping shape of a piece of bodywork or the travels and experiences gained on a particular machine.

Hello... September 2010

However, from talking to owners it’s clear that the 250cc two-stroke has inspired so many of you. No matter which era the bikes are from, the quarter-litre stink-wheel seems to hold a special place in a lot of CMM reader’s hearts.

Many of you will have experienced the 250 as your first passport to freedom during your time as a learner, while for others it may have been as your first post test big bike. But it’s the purity of performance that comes from a lightweight two-stroke and the sensations gained on it at an impressionable age that has stuck with owners and is what binds them together today.

But it’s not all two-strokes in this issue. Steve Cooper rides the first model of Honda CB250 – the original CB250K – and has been bowled over by it. He has even been making a CB-sized space in his garage – just in case one comes up at the right price sometime soon.

And if those don’t float your boat, there’s a beautiful Honda RC166 replica with a CB400/4 frame and CBR250RR engine that’s been built to a strict budget by a reader that we’re particularly taken with.

This month we salute the humble 250.

Enjoy the issue.
