Hello... October 2011

We’ve had something of a capricious summer but that hasn’t stopped thousands of classic bike enthusiasts getting out and about attending the multitude of shows, events and gatherings. I’ve seen bikes being ridden, on trailers and parked up at cafes and pubs.

Hello... October 2011

It doesn’t matter if they’re polished and pampered show machines, run ragged daily rides or bikes owned from new – it’s fantastic to see our machines out and about and despite the recession it appears the classic scene is alive and well.

One of the areas in which we’re seeing a growth is the modifying scene. More and more are eschewing modern machines in favour of a classic from their youth. The main difference is they want something that handles almost as well as their previous hot poop machine. This has led to more classics appearing with newer suspension, tuned engines and more powerful brakes. If you think about it, they’re just the mods we did back in the day but utilising more modern technology. Best of all, the level of commitment and workmanship is no different to that of the most committed restorer. This month’s reader’s special is just one example of the breed.

The CMM show rolls into town next month and I’m looking forward to the mix of modded and concours machines that come with it.
